Centennial celebration for First Baptist
Plans are in full swing for the Coalinga First Baptist church 100 year celebration. Invitations have been sent to all church members and former members. "Many are planning to attend the festivities, from out of town," said Vern Apple, the celebration chair.
The event will be held the weekend of Nov. 1, 2 and 3. Beginning on Saturday evening, with a tri-tip dinner and testimonials when church members will reminisce about the church's long history. Pictures are being gathered and a photo album of written memories will be published for the gala. Also 100 years of mementos are being planned to honor the day's events.
The celebration will continue with an all day celebration on Sunday. The theme for the 100 year celebration is "Coalinga Fist Baptist, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." The two days will be divided into three themes and programs will coincide with the past, present and the future. There will be an all church luncheon and docent tours of the facilities with photo displays and decorated classrooms and meeting rooms. Then in the evening a ceremony will highlight the future generation of the church with a youth oriented program and music.
Several of the pastors who have presided over the church will return to join the festivities and share in the memories. Activities are planned for all age levels and all the community is invited to share in the day's events. In addition church members will place a time capsule in the foundation of the church for future generations to unearth.
